FC Kuban Krasnodar
Soviet-era club that became Russian Premier League side before bankruptcy.

FC Kuban Krasnodar, a Russian professional club, now competes only regionally. It reached the Russian Premier League in 2011 after winning the First Division in 2010. One of Russia’s oldest professional clubs, it originated as Dynamo Krasnodar under the Soviet NKVD and was renamed during political shifts in the USSR.
History
Football arrived in the Kuban region in the early 1900s, when several sports clubs popped up in Ekaterinodar. At first, games were played only within these clubs, and football had to compete with other sports for attention.
Over time, interest picked up, and friendly matches between clubs from different cities started happening. The very first intercity game in Ekaterinodar took place on either August 6 or August 9, 1912, when the Achilles club—or possibly an Ekaterinodar city squad made up of Achilles players—beat Novorossiysk Olympia 5-0. By 1913, the first city championship was held, and regular matches between local teams like Achilles, Sport, and Victoria became a normal thing.
Founding
The club itself traces its roots to 1928, when Dynamo NKVD was formed in Krasnodar. Some accounts suggest a team existed a year earlier, but no documentary proof backs that up.
Dynamo: 1928–1953
Before the Soviet Union had a proper national league, Dynamo played friendlies against top sides from Russia, Ukraine, and the Caucasus. They also took part in local tournaments, such as the Lottery Friendship Cup, which involved sports clubs and teams from the Krasnodar military garrison. In 1931, Dynamo moved into its own stadium in central Krasnodar—still the oldest sports facility in the city today—and that same year earned the Sportspeople of the Northern Caucasus award.
In 1935, Dynamo was the only team from Krasnodar in the intercity USSR Championship. During the group stage in Pyatigorsk, they played three matches in five days: a 2-2 draw with Yerevan on June 26, a 1-0 win over Makhachkala on June 28, and a 1-2 loss to Pyatigorsk on June 30, which left them third in the group. In 1948, the club entered the RSFSR championship, starting with preliminary games in the North Caucasus against teams from Stavropol, Rostov-on-Don, Grozny, Stalingrad, Nalchik, Makhachkala, and Krasnodar Lightning.
Dynamo went unbeaten through the zone tournament. The playoffs kicked off on October 3 at their home stadium, and the hosts reached the final without a loss.
On October 17, 1948, they beat Molotov 4-0 to win the RSFSR title for the first time. In 1953, the club changed its name to Neftyanik and played in the Class B Soviet League the following year. They started the 1953 season strong but faded in the second half, ending up in 10th place.
