History

Before they were a group, each member of Dragon Pony auditioned on their own and went through training at Antenna. Gang-hun and Se-hyuk were the first to sign with the company, putting in four years of training. Sung-hyuk came next with three and a half years, and Tae-gyu was the last to join. On March 19, Antenna introduced Dragon Pony as the agency’s first boy band to debut. On April 4, the group announced on their YouTube channel that they had to pass two challenges set by Antenna CEO Yoo Hee-yeol to earn their debut. The first was gaining 20,000 followers on their official Instagram account, and the second was performing a solo concert for at least 500 people. They hit the 20,000-follower mark on April 22, finishing the first task. On June 29, they held that concert for 500 attendees at Musinsa Garage in Seoul’s Mapo District, completing the second mission. During this pre-debut phase, the band stayed active on YouTube, sharing their journey and posting live performance videos of original songs like “Morse Code,” “Traffic Jam,” “Waste,” “Snake That Eats Its Tail,” and “Pity Punk.” Even before officially debuting, they played at events such as Mint Festa Vol. 73: Fascinating, the 66th Live Club Day, and Road to BU-ROCK. They also worked on a commercial project called Samsung Gift Funding Song alongside labelmates and seniors Peppertones, Jung Jae-hyung, and Kwon Jin-ah. Additionally, they contributed to Peppertones’ 20th-anniversary album by recording a remake of the song “Deneb.” On September 26, Dragon Pony made their official debut with the self-written and self-produced EP Pop Up. Soon after, they were added to the lineups of major festivals like the 2024 Hyundai Card Da Vinci Motel, the 2024 Busan International Rock Festival, and the Grand Mint Festival 2024.
