EDAM Entertainment

Label established by Kakao M to manage IU.

EDAM Entertainment

EDAM Entertainment is a South Korean record label established by Kakao M (formerly LOEN Entertainment) in 2020 to manage long-time soloist IU. The name EDAM (이담) is the reverse of 'Made' and stands for 이 다음 (E-da-um = the next), meaning reversing obvious ideas to make the next things go beyond times. The label later expanded to include actress Shin Se-kyung (signed July 5, 2021) and singer Woodz (signed October 25, 2022).

Lore & Background

EDAM Entertainment was created by Kakao M in 2020 specifically to manage IU, a long-time soloist who had been with the company for years. The label's name is a creative reversal of the word 'Made,' symbolizing a forward-thinking approach. On July 5, 2021, actress Shin Se-kyung signed with the label, and on October 25, 2022, singer Woodz also joined.

Reader's Guide

EDAM Entertainment represents a strategic move by Kakao Entertainment to provide dedicated management for its most prominent solo artist, IU, while also expanding into actor management and other musical acts. The label's naming philosophy—reversing 'Made' to suggest innovation—reflects its role in Kakao's broader entertainment ecosystem. By signing Shin Se-kyung and Woodz, EDAM diversified beyond IU, though IU remains its flagship artist. The label operates as a house label under Kakao Entertainment, distinct from independent subsidiaries like Starship Entertainment.
