Faith (South Korean TV series)

Faith (Korean: 신의; RR: Sinui; also known as *The Great Doctor*) is a 2012 South Korean television drama starring Lee Min-ho and Kim Hee-sun. It aired on SBS from August 13 to October 30, 2012, in 24 episodes, each broadcast on Mondays and Tuesdays at 21:55 (KST). The story centers on a plastic surgeon from present-day Seoul who is abducted and transported 700 years into the past, to the Goryeo period. There, she develops a romantic relationship with the man who took her—a warrior who commands the royal guard.

The Korean title *Sin-ui* can be interpreted as "faith," in the sense of belief in justice. Written in Hanja as 神醫, it means "Divine Doctor," while in Hangul it also conveys the idea of a divine healer or great physician.

In the plot, King Gongmin of Goryeo (played by Ryu Deok-hwan) returns to his kingdom with his Yuan princess bride, Noguk (Park Se-young). An attack leaves the queen fatally wounded. Following his royal advisor’s counsel, the king orders Choi Young (Lee Min-ho), captain of the royal guard, to enter a mystical portal called "heaven's gate" and retrieve a "heaven's doctor." Choi Young travels to the future and brings back Yoo Eun-soo (Kim Hee-sun), a modern Seoul doctor, to save the queen. He promises to return her to her own time once the queen is healed, but the royal advisor schemes to keep her in Goryeo, convincing the king she is too useful to let go.

As Eun-soo adapts to her new surroundings, she and Choi Young gradually fall in love. Complications arise when others become obsessed with her as the "Heaven's doctor," and she becomes a pawn in political struggles among King Gongmin, the Yuan overlords, the sociopathic nobleman Ki-chul (Yu Oh-seong), and Prince Deok-heung (Park Yoon-jae), the king’s uncle. Choi Young repeatedly risks his life to thwart Ki-chul and Deok-heung, who both seek to capture Eun-soo. The series follows their efforts to evade these threats and whether they can reach heaven’s door before it closes permanently.

The main cast includes Lee Min-ho as General Choi Young, a 29-year-old bodyguard to King Gongmin around 1352. He has no regrets, no interest in women or money, and his hobby is sleeping. As a brave captain and strategist of the Woodalchi warriors, he fears no death.
