Connect (TV series)

Connect is a South Korean television series directed by Japanese filmmaker Takashi Miike, with Jung Hae-in, Go Kyung-pyo, and Kim Hye-jun in the lead roles. It adapts a webtoon of the same name and debuted on Disney+ on December 7, 2022. The show is the first South Korean drama to be helmed by a Japanese director.

The story follows Ha Dong-soo, a humanoid whose body can heal itself, who is abducted by an organ trafficking ring. During the harvesting surgery, he wakes up and escapes, but has lost one eye. He discovers he can see through that missing eye, which has been transplanted into a serial killer who turns victims into corpse art. Dong-soo pursues the killer to reclaim what was taken.

The main cast includes Jung Hae-in as Dong-soo, Go Kyung-pyo as Oh Jin-seop (the killer who received the eye), and Kim Hye-jun as Choi I-rang, a mysterious helper who knows the secret of Connect. Supporting roles include police detectives Choi, Yeom, and Park, played by Kim Roi-ha, Han Tae-hee, and Lee Tae-hyeong. The organ trafficking gang features Jang Gwang as a doctor, Jo Bok-rae as Mr. Kim, and Sung Hyuk as Min-sook. Other characters include Lee Sun-hee (Jang Hee-ryung), musician Z (Yang Dong-geun), and Song Ha-young (Oh Ha-nee).

Production began in June 2021 when Studio Dragon announced the project with Miike. Filming was reported in progress in January 2022 and concluded in March 2022. The series premiered at the 27th Busan International Film Festival’s Onscreen Section on October 6, 2022, screening the first three episodes. All six episodes were released on Disney+ on December 7, 2022. On Rotten Tomatoes, the series holds a 100% approval rating from six critic reviews, with an average score of 7.2/10.
