Background and composition

The title 2U plays on the English meaning going to you and the Korean pronunciation's similarity to the word reason. Its message addresses a weary or lonely person pursuing their dreams, assuring them that others love them for who they are. Korean-American artist Chancellor wrote and composed the song with Kang in mind; Kang felt it suited him from the initial working stages. He described 2U as a hybrid of pop and hip-hop with a gentle and comfortable sound for spring, while MTV News noted R&B flourishes. IZM's Hwang In-ho called it a house track with synth-based rhythm, R&B beats, and slow tempo. In a Grazia Korea interview, Kang explained he chose groovy title tracks to show his capabilities step-by-step.
