Snaky Cat
A blockchain battle royale where snake cats eat doughnuts.
Snaky Cat is a mobile battle royale game in the .io genre, launched on February 4, 2025, by developer Appxplore (iCandy). It adapts the classic Snake formula—players grow by collecting doughnuts—and adds blockchain features built by Animoca Brands.
In gameplay, the player controls a snake-like cat, gathering doughnuts and other treats to increase in size and earn points. Eating doughnuts triggers score combos. The action takes place in a player-versus-player arena where the cat must dodge both opponents and obstacles. Unlike traditional Snake games, colliding with your own body does not cause death. When a cat is eliminated, it drops a trail of doughnuts equal to its size. Cats that survive to the match’s end earn expeditions with rewards. Players can team up with a friend, and both receive a special skin that lets them fuse together.
The game uses two currencies: Rubies for power-ups, and Cat Tokens for new skins. At launch, over 50 skins were available, including the Legendary Cat and skins from other Appxplore titles like Crab War and Claw Stars. Cats can also be accessorized.
Pre-registration for Snaky Cat began on July 22, 2024, and a pre-release launched on September 18 in Canada, Argentina, Australia, Malaysia, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa. After surpassing one million pre-registrations, Appxplore expanded the pre-release to 48 more countries, including Mexico, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Portugal, Romania, Greece, Chile, Venezuela, and most of Africa (excluding Algeria and Egypt). Total pre-registrations reached 1.5 million. The game officially launched globally on Android and iOS on February 4, 2025, with Appxplore announcing the server opening on Twitter.

Lore & Background
Snaky Cat entered pre-registration on 22 July 2024 and began pre-release on 18 September 2024 in Canada, Argentina, Australia, Malaysia, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, and South Africa. After surpassing one million pre-registrations, Appxplore opened the game to 48 additional countries, including Mexico, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Portugal, Romania, Greece, Chile, Venezuela, and most of Africa except Algeria and Egypt. The game reached a total of 1.5 million pre-registrations before its official global release on 4 February 2025.
In gameplay, the player controls a 'snake cat' and collects doughnuts and other treats to grow larger and score points. Eating doughnuts triggers score combos. The game is set in a PvP arena where players must avoid others and obstacles, but unlike typical Snake games, the player does not die if it collides with itself. Upon death, the cat leaves a trail of doughnuts equivalent to its size. Cats that survive until the end earn expeditions with rewards. Players can also play with a friend, receiving a special skin that allows them to fuse with each other.
The game features its own currency: Rubies for power-ups and Cat Tokens for new skins. Initially, there were over 50 skins, including the Legendary Cat and skins from other Appxplore games such as Crab War and Claw Stars. Cats can also be customized with accessories.
Reader's Guide
Snaky Cat represents a notable intersection of traditional .io battle royale gameplay and blockchain technology, with its Web3 elements developed by Animoca Brands. Its significance lies in adapting the classic Snake formula—where players grow by collecting items and avoid collisions—into a mobile PvP arena with a blockchain economy. The game's pre-registration campaign, which reached 1.5 million sign-ups across a phased rollout in dozens of countries, demonstrates substantial interest in blockchain-integrated mobile gaming. The inclusion of over 50 skins at launch, including crossovers from other Appxplore titles, highlights a strategy of leveraging existing intellectual property to attract players. The unique mechanic of not dying upon self-collision and the ability for friends to fuse via a special skin differentiate Snaky Cat from traditional Snake games. Its legacy may be as an early example of a mainstream mobile battle royale incorporating cryptocurrency-based currencies and NFTs, though the long-term impact remains to be seen.
