Report
Nico Rosberg changed his power unit after an engine failure in Italy, using his fourth unit of the season and nearing a possible grid penalty. Alexander Rossi made his Formula One debut with Manor Marussia, replacing Roberto Merhi on a five-race deal. Race stewards included Garry Connelly, Vincenzo Spano, and driver steward Martin Donnelly, the latter in his first such role since the 2014 Malaysian Grand Prix. Sauber brought a heavily-updated car with a shorter nose, revised front and rear wings, a new engine cover, and new brake ducts. Toro Rosso introduced a revised front wing, while Red Bull fitted new turning vanes to Daniil Kvyat's car to improve airflow and downforce, a feature planned for both cars at the next race. Force India updated its VJM08B with changes to the diffuser, rear wing, brake ducts, and bodywork, and Ferrari modified the floor in front of the rear wheels of the SF15-T. The FIA approved minor layout changes from turn 11 to turn 13, including a left kink at turn 11, a shift to the left side of Fullerton Road, use of the other side of Anderson Bridge at turn 12, and a one-metre widening of the turn 13 hairpin to aid overtaking. Two DRS activation zones were used: between turns five and seven along Raffles Boulevard, and on the start-finish straight from turn 23 to turn one. Pirelli supplied the yellow-banded soft and red-banded supersoft compounds, along with green intermediate and blue full-wet weather tyres.
