Lore & Background
Wendy first appears in "The Hard Goodbye" after her twin Goldie is murdered. She initially believes Marv killed Goldie and, alongside Gail, captures him to extract a confession. After Marv escapes his restraints, Wendy realizes he is innocent. Together they uncover that Cardinal Roark used Kevin, a cannibalistic serial killer, to murder Goldie and frame Marv. Wendy waits in the car while Marv travels to the Roark farm to torture and kill Kevin. She supports Marv until his execution, where she visits him in prison. When he mistakenly calls her "Goldie," she replies, "Call me Goldie," before they kiss madly. In "A Dame to Kill For," she is shown working in Old Town when Goldie offers services to Marv.
Reader's Guide
Wendy serves as Marv's primary ally and emotional anchor following Goldie's death. Fans should note that while Wendy functions as a "vengeful double" to Goldie initially, she becomes a distinct character who aids Marv in his quest for justice. In the film, visual cues distinguish her from Goldie: Wendy is typically black-and-white until Marv mistakes her for Goldie in prison, at which point she briefly gains color (hair and lips) before fading back. She represents the survival instinct of Old Town women, transitioning from a grieving sister to an active enforcer who helps capture and torture criminals alongside Gail.
