Paul Dini was born on August 7, 1957 in New York City to Patricia (McClaran) and Robert Dini, an advertising executive. He is of Italian descent through his father. Dini attended Stevenson School in Pebble Beach, California on an art scholarship and earned a BFA degree in creative writing from Emerson College in Boston. During college, he began doing freelance animation scripts for Filmation and other studios. In 1984, he was hired to work for George Lucas on several animation projects. Dini wrote episodes for He-Man and the Masters of the Universe, Dungeons & Dragons, Transformers, G.I. Joe, and Star Wars: Ewoks. In 1989, he was hired at Warner Bros. Animation to work on Tiny Toon Adventures, then moved to Batman: The Animated Series as a writer, producer, and editor. He later worked on Superman: The Animated Series, The New Batman Adventures, and Batman Beyond. Dini co-created Freakazoid! with Bruce Timm and Tom Ruegger and produced Duck Dodgers and Krypto the Superdog. He left Warner Bros. Animation in early 2004 and went on to serve as a co-executive producer and write several episodes for the first season of Lost. Dini wrote the storylines for the Batman: Arkham Asylum and Batman: Arkham City video games. In 2010, he created the live action drama series Tower Prep for Cartoon Network.
