Background
The name comes from Gehenna, or Gehinnom, the Jewish version of Hell portrayed in the Tanakh, the Talmud and other Jewish scripture: a purgatory-like place where the wicked go to suffer until they have atoned for their sins, for at most one year, which sets it apart from the eternal Christian or Islamic Hell. Gehenna also appears as a skill in Shin Megami Tensei: Strange Journey and its Redux.
