Did You Know?
- The game's producer Yasuhiro Nishiyama was fond of medal games such as Royal Ascot.
- Nishiyama wanted to surprise people with a game that Overworks, mainly engaged with home console RPGs like Sakura Wars and Skies of Arcadia, would not be expected to make.
- The ability to save player progress through an IC card gave the team the idea to develop a new type of medal game.
Gameplay
Dragon Treasure is a coin pusher in which players receive medals that are pushed off, using them to progress and level up their character. The game ends when the player runs out of medals. Starting with 100 medals, players earn more through battles, opening treasure chests, and participating in roulette wheel and slot machine sequences, with the ultimate goal of finding the dragon treasure. The sequel, Dragon Treasure II, continues the story and casts the player as a merchant who sells items won and determines their score. It adds new roulette sequences, including a crystal roulette triggered by a crystal in a dungeon, leading to a bonus room where many items can be won and sold. Three new modes are introduced: short hunt for players with few medals, dungeon hunt for experienced players, and medal attack, which tasks players with clearing a level within a set time to win medals. Extra items and weapons are also added, and players can upload their score to the official website. Dragon Treasure III adds more roulettes to increase medal-winning chances, such as at the end of battles, and introduces new dungeon missions accessible through a world map.
