Rolling Thunder 2
Sequel to Rolling Thunder with two-player co-op.
Namco brought back its run and gun formula in 1991 with Rolling Thunder 2, a sequel to the 1986 original. It keeps the core gameplay but adds two-player cooperative support and sharper visuals. Set in the 1990s, the setting shifts from 1968 to a more modern, futuristic era, and players can choose a female character if they wish.

Gameplay
Set in the 1990s, the Geldra organization returns and destroys several satellites in outer space. Players control a member of the Rolling Thunder task force, with two players able to play simultaneously: Player 1 as female agent Leila and Player 2 as male agent Albatross. Though they have different appearances and handguns, both characters share identical abilities. Each agent can take only two physical hits from enemies, and a bullet or projectile hit causes instant death. The default pistol has limited ammunition; when bullets run out, a slow chaser bullet fires instead. Players can upgrade to a submachine gun by entering marked doors, where a counter shows remaining bullets, allowing one player to leave ammo for the other. Unlike the original, pistol and machine gun ammunition does not carry over between levels; players start each new level with minimum pistol rounds only. Graphics are improved with a futuristic look; the Masker enemies, formerly hooded terrorists, are now cyborgs. Stage designs are more varied: the first four stages take place in a seaside resort in Florida, and the last four in a pyramid in Egypt, both locations being camouflaged Geldra bases.
