Regular season
The 2015 Mariners were their franchise's 39th season, their 16th full year at Safeco Field, ending 76-86. They signed Nelson Cruz hoping to contend, but fell below .500 for good in May. Cruz hit a walk-off single and two homers against his old team, the Rangers, on April 19 during a five-run comeback, and was named AL Player of the Month. On May 27, his three-run homer into the stingray tank at Tropicana Field swept the Rays and got Seattle to .500. Rookie Mike Montgomery threw back-to-back shutouts in June against the Royals and Padres. Cruz and Felix Hernandez made the All-Star Game. The Mariners turned a triple play versus the Blue Jays on July 26, and Hisashi Iwakuma no-hit the Orioles on August 12. General manager Jack Zduriencik was fired August 28; Jeff Kingston took over temporarily, then Jerry Dipoto was hired September 28. Dipoto fired manager Lloyd McClendon after the season. Cruz won his first Silver Slugger. The team played 23 extra-inning games, most in MLB in 2015.
