A 1988 sci-fi musical comedy about aliens and love.

The film underwent over five months of post-production, including reshoots and the removal of several scenes.[1] Vestron Pictures acquired distribution rights after positive previews, and the film debuted at the Toronto Festival of Festivals in September 1988.[2] Legal issues delayed its release until May 1989.[2] The film earned only about a third of its $10 million production cost at the box office.[3]
Following Julie Brown's 1984 EP, Warner Bros. started crafting a musical comedy inspired by her song, with Brown as the star.[4] Brown, Terrence E. McNally, and Charlie Coffey were the writers of the screenplay.[4] Madonna and Molly Ringwald were both approached to play Valerie Gail, but after they turned it down, Warner Bros. abandoned the film.[5] Filming started near the end of 1987.[1]
