Lore & Background
Limbus Company is set in a dystopian city-state known as 'the City,' comprising twenty-five districts (numbered 1–25), each unique in technological advancements and culture. Each district is locally governed by a Wing, a megacorporation named after a letter of the alphabet that operates using a unique technology known as a Singularity. The Wings are led by the Head, a triumvirate consisting of A Corp (the Beholder), B Corp (the Eye), and C Corp (the Claw), which also enforces universal taboos of the city. Each district is physically split into a Nest, the urban residence supported by the Corps, and the Backstreets, poverty-stricken areas overrun by criminal Syndicates and outside of the Corps' protection. Many people in the City work as Fixers, contractors who take jobs relating to various fields of expertise, assigned a numerical grade from 9 (lowest) to 1 (highest), with exceptional Fixers promoted to Color Fixer rank. The Hana Association is responsible for assigning licenses and fixer grades. Occasionally, humans overcome with intense emotion hear the voice of a woman named Carmen; those who give in to her voice transform into monstrous entities called Distortions, while those who overcome it through self-acceptance and resistance may manifest 'Effloresced' E.G.O equipment, collectively referred to as the Distortion phenomenon.
Reader's Guide
Limbus Company represents a significant expansion of Project Moon's narrative universe, continuing the story of 'The City' after the events of Lobotomy Corporation and Library of Ruina. Its gameplay combines gacha mechanics with tactical turn-based combat, where players select a team of Sinners (from a pool of 12) and equip them with Identities and E.G.O skills obtained through the game's Extraction system using Lunacy or Extraction Tickets. The combat system features coin-flip mechanics influenced by Sanity Points, damage types (Slash, Blunt, Pierce), Sin Affinity resonance, and unique coin types such as Unbreakable Coins and Excision Coins. The game's significance lies in its integration of deep lore from previous Project Moon titles with a free-to-play gacha model, offering both permanent and limited-time content through Walpurgisnacht events and seasonal rotations. Its Chain Battle format allows use of all 12 Sinners, and the Dispenser system lets players directly purchase Identities and E.G.O using Egoshards. The game's setting and mechanics have attracted a dedicated player base interested in its dystopian worldbuilding and strategic depth.
