Schalke's 1942 championship was their sixth German title, following victories in 1934, 1935, 1937, 1939, and 1940. The club appeared in 14 of 18 national finals from 1933 to 1942, including ten German championship finals and eight Tschammerpokal finals. They won their league in every one of its eleven seasons from 1933 to 1942, never losing a home match in the Gauliga Westfalen during that period.
