The 1942 German championship final was played between Schalke 04 and an Austrian team, First Vienna, which played in Germany's Gauliga Ostmark after Austria's incorporation into the Reich through the 1938 Anschluss. Schalke won the final 2-0, with goals scored by Hermann Eppenhoff and Fritz Szepan. The manager was Otto Faist.

Schalke's 1942 championship was their sixth German title, following victories in 1934, 1935, 1937, 1939, and 1940. The club appeared in 14 of 18 national finals from 1933 to 1942, including ten German championship finals and eight Tschammerpokal finals. They won their league in every one of its eleven seasons from 1933 to 1942, never losing a home match in the Gauliga Westfalen during that period.
