Chico Escuela
Garrett Morris portrayed Chico Escuela, a retired Hispanic ballplayer who served as the Weekend Update sports correspondent. Introduced by Jane Curtin, he would respond with "Thank you, Hane!" and his catchphrase "Beisbol been berry, berry good to me! In the late 1990s, Sammy Sosa occasionally repeated the catchphrase to the media.
Telepsychic
Telepsychic was a sketch that opened the show on both of its appearances. Dan Aykroyd played Ray, a pseudopsychic with a television show, wearing a blonde wig and tinted sunglasses and seated behind a desk with five telephones. Callers sought advice on personal issues, and his flippant responses, including "Ohhhh... about a month" to any question involving a time span, indicated he was a fraud.
Candy Slice
Gilda Radner played Candy Slice, an intense and troubled rock and roll artist. The character was loosely based on punk rock pioneer Patti Smith.
