Canadian defenceman drafted 32nd overall by Chicago in 2021.
Last updated
Nolan Allan, a Canadian defenceman born April 28, 2003, plays for the San Jose Barracuda of the AHL while under contract to the NHL's San Jose Sharks. Originally selected 32nd overall in the first round of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft by the Chicago Blackhawks, he made his NHL debut with that team on October 8, 2024, and scored his first NHL goal on December 19, 2024.
Playing career
Nolan Allan's path to the NHL began in the WHL when the Prince Albert Raiders picked him third overall in the 2018 Bantam Draft. Three years later, the Chicago Blackhawks selected him with the 32nd pick of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, and he signed a three-year entry-level contract that September. Before the 2022-23 season, Allan was named captain of the Raiders, but the role was brief. In November 2022, he and teammate Reese Shaw were traded to the Seattle Thunderbirds in a deal that brought Easton Kovacs, Braydon Dube, Gabe Ludwig, and six draft picks—including two first-rounders—to Prince Albert.
With Seattle, Allan won the Ed Chynoweth Cup as WHL champions in 2023, sending the team to the Memorial Cup. The Thunderbirds reached the final but lost to the Quebec Remparts, and Allan earned a spot on the Memorial Cup All-Star Team.
He made his NHL debut for Chicago on October 8, 2024, in a 5-2 loss to the Utah Hockey Club, and scored his first NHL goal on December 19, 2024, during a 3-1 home win over the Seattle Kraken. In January 2026, the Blackhawks traded Allan, along with Laurent Brossoit and a seventh-round pick in 2028, to the San Jose Sharks for Ryan Ellis, Jake Furlong, and a fourth-round pick in 2028. He signed a two-year contract with the Sharks the following June.
