Mars (Planet)
A proud realm of the ancient Moon Kingdom, forever bound to the spirit of fire and purification.
Mars is a celestial body within the Solar System that served as the home world of Princess Mars, whose soul was reincarnated on Earth as Rei Hino. In the distant past, this world was part of the Silver Millennium, a golden age of peace under the Moon Kingdom. Princess Mars ruled over a palace or realm on Mars, but the planet itself is not depicted as having a widespread civilization or population. Following the fall of the Silver Millennium in a general war, Mars continued to exist as a normal planet in the solar system, not as a destroyed ruin.

Lore & Background
In the golden age of the Silver Millennium, Mars was the realm of Princess Mars, who wielded immense spiritual abilities to purify evil spirits and communicate with the divine as the planetary Guardian representing Mars. The planet's culture was deeply intertwined with the Moon Kingdom, forming a crucial defensive line against encroaching darkness. When the Dark Kingdom launched its assault on the Silver Millennium, the war brought an end to the ancient era, but Mars itself was not physically destroyed or left as a desolate ruin; it remains a normal planet in the present day.
Reader's Guide
Mars serves as both a historical setting and a symbolic anchor in the Sailor Moon narrative. While the planet itself is rarely visited in its physical form due to its destruction, its presence looms large over the story of Rei Hino on Earth. In the ancient timeline, Mars was a key ally to Queen Serenity's kingdom, representing the spiritual and purifying arm of the Sailor Guardians' defense. Its fall marked the beginning of the end for the Silver Millennium, highlighting the sheer power of the Dark Kingdom. For fans, Mars matters because it establishes the deep cosmic connection between the Earth-based Guardian, Rei, and her celestial heritage. The planet's fate underscores the stakes of their battles: failure means not just personal loss, but the erasure of entire worlds from existence.
