From 17 to 30 September 2000, sailing events at the Sydney Summer Olympics took place at the Olympic Sailing Shore Base in Sydney Harbour. The competition featured eleven different sailing classes, with a total athlete quota of 400—124 spots reserved for men, 92 for women, and 184 open to either sex. The sport had been officially renamed from 'yachting' to 'sailing' at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.
