History

Akhisarspor was created in 1970 through the merger of Güneşspor, Gençlikspor and Doğanspor in Manisa, with Yılmaz Atabarut as founder and first president. The team played in regional amateur leagues until 1984, when it gained promotion to the TFF Third League. Relegated back to the amateur level in 1994, it returned to the third league in 1995. By the 2000–01 season, Akhisarspor had reached the TFF Second League, and after nine seasons there, it moved up to the TFF First League. In its second season in that division, the club won the league title and earned promotion to the Süper Lig. The 2016–17 season saw Akhisarspor achieve its best-ever Süper Lig finish of 7th place. On 10 May 2018, the club won the Turkish Cup for the first time, which also secured its debut appearance in the UEFA Europa League.

Stadium

Before promotion to the Süper Lig in 2012, Akhisarspor played at the Akhisar Şehir Stadium. That venue did not meet top-flight standards, so from 2012 to 2017 the club shared the Manisa 19 Mayis Stadium with Manisaspor. Construction of a new home ground, the Spor Toto Akhisar Stadium, began in 2014. The older Manisa 19 Mayis Stadium opened in 1974 and was renovated in 2008.

Colours and crest

Akhisarspor's official colours are green and black, with yellow also used; these three colours represent the merged clubs Güneşspor, Gençlikspor and Doğanspor respectively. White is employed as a fourth colour. Nike has been the kit manufacturer since 2012. The crest displays the three club colours, a white ball with yellow wings, the word 'Akhisar' in green above the ball, 'Spor' on a black background below it, and '1970' in black beneath that.
