History
The band's founders, Shilonosova and Gorbunov, met in Kazan. Shilonosova relocated to Moscow in 2011, and the group was formed the following year. Their debut EP, Freaky Man, was recorded by Shilonosova and Gorbunov and self-published in June 2012. A music video for the title track, featuring artist Alexander Krivoshapkin, appeared in October. The band's first concert took place in Kazan on 17 November 2012. In March 2013, the second EP, Evil, was released, leading to invitations to major Moscow festivals such as Bosco Fresh Fest, Afisha Picnic, and Faces & Laces. In August 2013, Glintshake opened for The Smashing Pumpkins at Stadium Live in Moscow. Midborn left the band that autumn and was replaced by Yegor Sargsyan from Trud; drummer Nikitin was replaced by Alexey Yevlanov from The Twiggys in early 2014. The debut album Eyebones came out in May 2014. A video for the song 'Wiuwiuwiu', filmed on an iPhone and edited in a single day, was released that same month. In November, the Nano Banana EP was issued, recorded at a studio near Moscow owned by Xuman Records; Gorbunov described the EP as stylistically free, marking a departure from the band's earlier 1990s influences. At the end of 2014, Glintshake contributed the song 'New Year of Hate' to Afisha's New Year's project. In early 2015, the band re-recorded 'Mu' from Nano Banana in Russian; Shilonosova noted that the English and Russian lyrics differed but the meaning and atmosphere remained unchanged. The re-recorded 'Mu' and 'New Year of Hate' appeared on the deluxe edition of Nano Banana in June. A video for 'Wrong Anthem', created by illustrator Alexander Kostenko, was released in September. Around that time, the band announced that 'good old Glintshake is coming to an end, but new and evil one is starting off.' In an interview with Furfur, Gorbunov stated the band had decided to move away from 1990s alternative rock influence, stop singing in English, and fully embrace their own influences, including Zvuki Mu and Russian avant-garde. In October 2015, the single 'Без пятнадцати пять' (A quarter to five) was released with a music video, followed by another single, 'Тени' (Shadows), in November.
