Background

Pinegrove's Everything So Far initially appeared in 2014 as a self-released CD-R, with each disc featuring hand-drawn art and unique cardboard sleeves painted with acrylic. When Boston's Seagreen Records put it out on cassette that December, the tracklist gained the new song "Problems," and tour sales followed. After signing with Run for Cover in 2015, the label reissued it that October with a changed tracklist. A 2017 vinyl and CD re-release included a 16-page booklet containing lyrics, photos, and an introduction from frontman Evan Stephens Hall.

Reception

Gwilym Mumford at The Guardian considered it a nice introduction to the group, noting that while there is a fair chunk of filler and the 21 songs begin to congeal into each other, it is solid enough as an introduction. Timothy Monger at Allmusic described the material as ranging from lo-fi rock epics to strummed acoustic numbers that blend lonesome rural tones with desperate suburban ennui, calling the compilation a testament to a band that sounded original out of the gate.
