The Coffin of Andy and Leyley
A dark adventure game about codependent siblings in a dystopian world.
The Coffin of Andy and Leyley is a top-down adventure game for Windows, created by Finnish developer Nemlei and released by Kit9 Studio. It blends dark comedy, psychological horror, and incestuous themes. The story centers on siblings Andrew and Ashley Graves, whose deeply codependent bond drives them to commit a series of crimes as they struggle to endure a dystopian setting.
The game began as a demo on Itch.io, later expanded into an early access title on Steam, released on October 13, 2023. The current build includes two and a half of four planned chapters, with the latter half of the third chapter still in development. This third chapter continues two distinct narrative paths established in the second chapter.
In gameplay, players control both Andrew and Ashley, exploring environments and solving puzzles from a top-down perspective. Choices made at certain points can alter the story’s direction and lead to multiple endings.
The plot opens with the siblings trapped in their apartment for three months during a quarantine, slowly starving after being abandoned by their parents. They discover a neighbor summoning a demon, which steals the neighbor’s soul. Andrew and Ashley then butcher and cannibalize the body for food. Believing the quarantine may be a cover for something sinister, they escape: Andrew kills one guard, and Ashley sacrifices the other guard’s soul to the demon. The demon gives Ashley a trinket said to grant clairvoyant dreams. The siblings flee and go into hiding.
Later, destitute and running out of money, they see news that their apartment has burned down, making them presumed dead. Ashley’s clairvoyance proves real when she uses a premonition to kill a hitman. They burglarize their parents’ house but are interrupted when their mother arrives home. After an awkward dinner, Ashley convinces Andrew they must kill their parents to prevent exposure and because their parents may have left them to die for insurance money. They take their parents hostage, sacrifice their souls to the demon, butcher the bodies, and Ashley cooks some of the meat into soup they eat together.
The siblings then seek new identities. Depending on player choices, they become either antagonistic (the “Decay” route) or friendly (the “Burial” route). In the Burial route, the trinket shows them a premonition of entering an incestuous sexual relationship.

Reader's Guide
The game is presented from a top-down perspective, with players exploring environments and solving puzzles to advance the narrative. Player choices can change the story's direction and unlock multiple endings. The game has received positive reviews from outlets such as Destructoid, The Mary Sue, Famitsu, and The Gamer, with praise for its exploration of toxic sibling dynamics and taboo subject matter. However, Kotaku Australia expressed bewilderment at its content juxtaposed with overwhelmingly positive Steam reception. Development has been managed by Kit9 Studio since November 2023, with monthly progress reports and a game jam announced. Legal issues involving copyright-infringing fan content and bootleg copies have caused delays.
