Alpha Kimori

Alpha Kimori is a series of episodic, sprite-based role-playing games featuring an anime-inspired visual style. It is marketed as combining a deeply philosophical narrative with a traditional turn-based battle system typical of Japanese RPGs. The series was independently created by Sherman Chin and Sherman3D, and developed using the RPG Maker engine.

The first installment, *Alpha Kimori: Great Doubt Episode One*, blends science fiction and fantasy. It emphasizes character development within a linear JRPG storyline. The title references the Great Doubt philosophy, inspired by Japanese Zen and Chinese Taoism, and the story serves as a metaphor for contemporary real-world events. It revolves around two opposing forces, Yin and Yang, which depend on each other, with no clear distinction between good and evil. The game is presented with simple 2D graphics.

The plot is set 50 years after an alien invasion of Earth. The newly discovered planet Kimori is home to two warring human factions: the Bidarians, who seek to reclaim Earth, and the Jinrians, who are satisfied with their new home. The Bidarians use Robotic Intelligent Cybernetic Armor (RICA), while the Jinrians can transform into giant native creatures. At its core, the story follows a young Bidarian warrior named Rick, who falls in love with the Jinrian princess Yuki.

Key characters include Rick Brightheart, a skilled Bidarian warrior under pressure from his prominent parents and the Elders, haunted by childhood memories of a winged girl that made him renounce violence. He holds the God Angel Ki Crystal. Vanessa Avery is Rick’s loyal childhood friend, a gifted but prideful warrior who harbors unrequited feelings for him; she holds the Metal Angel Ki Crystal. Yuki Furikai is a Jinrian princess adopted by Lord Magnus, whose mysterious origins include angelic wings; she is a formidable martial artist who hides her feelings for Rick and holds the Arch Angel Ki Crystal. Elder Evlar is a Bidarian High Council member who treats Kimorians with respect and has his own hidden agenda; in the second episode, he connects the Wood Angel Ki Crystal to his belt. Daygan Whitaker is a Bidarian warrior whose rivalry with Rick stems from jealousy over Vanessa’s affection; he holds the Fire Angel Ki Crystal.
