Vedic epithet of Agni as the terrestrial altar fire.
Jataveda is a Vedic Sanskrit term for a particular form or epithet of Agni, the Vedic god of fire. In a scheme alluded to in the RigVeda, Agni has three forms: celestial, aerial, and terrestrial. Jataveda represents the class of terrestrial fires, especially the altar fire, through which worshippers were to gain knowledge of all existence.
