Wine-growing area
The Coteaux du Lyonnais AOC vineyards are located in two main zones, each about 10 kilometers from Lyon, centered on L'Arbresle in the north and Brignais in the south. The eastern boundary is formed by the Rhône and Saône rivers, while the Monts du Lyonnais mountains lie to the west. To the north and south, the area borders the Beaujolais and Rhône wine regions, but the AOC is considered an isolated appellation rather than part of any larger region.
The vineyards cover roughly 370 hectares across 49 communes in the Rhône département, producing about 22,000 hectoliters of wine annually. The climate resembles that of Beaujolais but with a stronger Mediterranean influence. For reds and rosés, the Gamay grape is used, while whites are made mainly from Chardonnay, with some Aligoté.
