The Indianapolis White Castle #3, located on Fort Wayne Avenue, was built in 1927. It is the third-oldest surviving White Castle restaurant building in the country and the oldest in Indiana. Its exterior uses white enamel-glazed brick, a material exclusive to White Castle buildings from 1924 to 1929. The design includes castle-inspired details such as battlements, front-facing buttresses, and a corner tower. Originally smaller, it had only a counter and stools. Interior updates came in the 1930s, and exterior work in the 1950s added a southwest wing for carryout service. It operated continuously from 1927 to 1979, making it the longest-running fast food restaurant in the United States. The building was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 2011 for its architecture and role in the fast food revolution.
