Vespolina
Red Italian grape from Piedmont, related to Nebbiolo.
Last updated
Vespolina is a red wine grape from Italy, likely native to Piedmont’s Gattinara and Ghemme areas. DNA tests reveal it is a parent or offspring of Nebbiolo, making it a half-sibling to several other Piedmont varieties. In Gattinara, winemakers sometimes blend it with Nebbiolo and Bonarda Piemontese. Outside Piedmont, it appears in Lombardy’s Oltrepò Pavese under the name Ughetta.
