Overview
Jeff's financial troubles come to light when he pays Jeannie with a gold earring instead of a salary. After Fernandez is killed, Jeff sells the story to a newspaper contact, Barry Jones, for a good sum. Jeannie questions his morals, asking if he got his "blood money." Jeff endures a brutal series of attacks: he is hit on the head, shot at four times, nearly crushed by a sandbag and a thrown revolver, and finally knocked out by a shelf that falls on him in the basement while he searches for clues. Meanwhile, Marty develops a taste for fine dining, mentioning he recently ate at the Savoy with Prime Minister Harold Wilson.
Production
The 11th episode filmed for the series, despite being the fifth in broadcast order, was shot from October to November 1968. Its setting was the Palace Theatre in Watford, Hertfordshire. Gloria Marsh’s song borrows its music from The Saint episode Portrait of Brenda, which aired in February 1969. A silent, 66-second behind-the-scenes clip, filmed by a second unit with stand-ins for the main actors, appears as an extra on the fourth-region 2 DVD.
