The Toyota Yaris (XP210) is the fourth generation of the Yaris subcompact car, built on the GA-B platform and released in October 2019. It replaced the XP130 series Yaris/Vitz and is notable for being the first Yaris generation to adopt a unified global nameplate, as well as for winning the 2021 European Car of the Year award.

Lore & Background
Development of the XP210 series Yaris was led by chief engineer Yasunori Suezawa and chief hybrid engineer Takashi Uehara under the internal 'Toyota Compact Car Company'. CEO Akio Toyoda decided in 2015 to delay the planned launch by one year to revise the GA-B platform, which was initially larger, heavier, and more expensive than targeted due to shared parts with larger TNGA platforms. The vehicle was seen testing in July 2019 at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany.
The Yaris was unveiled simultaneously on 16 October 2019 in Japan and Amsterdam, Netherlands. It went on sale in Japan on 10 February 2020, with the petrol 4WD variant following in April 2020. The Japanese market Yaris marked the debut of the Yaris nameplate in Japan, replacing the Vitz badge due to a sharp drop in sales and as an effort to expand its middle-aged customer base, as well as for WRC popularity and unification of Toyota sales networks. The Japanese-built model retained a 1695 mm width to stay within the country's 'compact car' classification.
For Europe, specifications were detailed in July 2020, with production commencing at Toyota Motor Manufacturing France in Onnaing on 6 July 2020, and later at Toyota Motor Manufacturing Czech Republic in Kolín from November 2021. A two-seater van version called the Yaris Hybrid ECOVan was released in Spain in August 2021. The GR Sport trim was introduced in December 2021, featuring revised suspension, increased body rigidity, and electric power steering readjustment.
