Development and release
Nightmare Kart began as an April Fool's video created during the development of Bloodborne PSX, but was turned into a real product shortly after that game's release. In January 2024, LWMedia was contacted by Sony over unauthorized use of the Bloodborne intellectual property, causing a slight delay to remove all references and a rename from Bloodborne Kart to Nightmare Kart. The game launched on Itch.io on May 31, 2024, and on Steam on June 5, 2024, the latter delayed by Steam's review process. On 14 November 2025, a reskin titled Glitch Kart was released in cooperation with Glitch Productions to advertise their Black Friday sale, featuring environments and characters from shows such as The Amazing Digital Circus and Murder Drones.
