Surah 106: Quraysh (Quraysh)
A call to Quraysh to worship their Provider and Protector.
Surah Quraysh is the 106th chapter of the Qur'an, consisting of 4 verses. It takes its name from the word "Quraysh" in the first verse. The surah addresses the Quraysh tribe, who dominated Mecca, urging them to worship God, the Lord of the Kaaba, who provided them with security and sustenance. It is an earlier Meccan surah, believed to have been revealed in Mecca. The surah forms a pair with the preceding surah, al-Fil, reminding the Quraysh of the favors Allah bestowed upon them.

Lore & Background
The surah opens by referencing the accustomed security of the Quraysh, specifically their caravans traveling safely in winter and summer. This security is presented as a known condition, not explained further in the passage. The surah then commands: "Let them worship the Lord of this House"—the Kaaba in Mecca—who has fed them against hunger and made them safe from fear. The Kaaba was central to the life of the Quraysh, being a center of pilgrimage that brought much trade and prestige. Sura al-Fil describes how God saved the Kaaba from destruction, while Sura Quraysh describes God as Lord of the Kaaba.
Reader's Guide
The sura's structure moves from describing a known benefit (security in travel) to prescribing a duty (worship), with the divine provision as the basis. The passages do not explain how the Quraysh originally obtained this security or whether they already worshipped the Lord of the House; they simply present the call to worship as a logical response to God's care. The focus remains on the Quraysh's collective experience and their obligation, without individual names or historical events. According to Alī ibn Ahmad al-Wāhidī, Umm Hani bint Abi Talib reported that the Prophet said Allah favored the Quraysh with seven characteristics, including that a surah was revealed about them in which none but them was mentioned—this surah.
