Mouth Congress
A documentary-fiction hybrid about a gay punk band from Toronto.
Mouth Congress is a 2021 Canadian film directed by Paul Bellini and Scott Thompson that blends documentary and fictional elements to portray the gay punk band of the same name, which the directors formed while rising to fame as members of The Kids in the Hall. The project began in 2011 when Bellini discovered a box of old videotapes of the band's 1980s performances, and after initial interviews and archival footage proved unsatisfying, filmmaker Josh Levy suggested a reunion concert as a documentary framework. Concurrent with the film's release, Thompson and Bellini issued a three-song single for Record Store Day 2021, followed by the compilation 'Waiting for Henry' in December.
