Background

Cheater Slicks, a three-piece garage punk band, formed in Boston in 1987 with Tom Shannon on guitar and vocals, Dave Shannon on guitar, and Dana Hatch on drums and vocals. Early on, they cycled through different singers and even played as an instrumental group before Tom and Dana took over singing. A series of bassists—Dina Pearlman, Allan Paulinho, and Merle Allin—came and went before the band dropped the bass entirely, following the Cramps' example.

They relocated to Columbus, Ohio, in 1996 and remain active, marking their 20th anniversary with a show on September 1, 2007. Mudhoney covered their song "Ghost" on the album "Tomorrow Hit Today." Almost Ready Records has reissued three of their albums on vinyl: "On Your Knees" in 2016, "Destination Lonely" in 2017, and "Our Food Is Chaos: Allen Paulino Session" in 2011. They also appear on the 2012 compilation "The World's Lousy With Ideas Vol 9."
