History

Patricia Day and Kim Nekroman first met in 1996 when Day's band Peanut Pump Gun opened for Nekroman's band Nekromantix at the POPKOM festival in Cologne, Germany. Though both were part of the Copenhagen subculture scene, they had not met before. In 2000, Day recruited co-workers Mille and Kamilla Vanilla from a body piercing shop to serve as go-go dancers. The group recorded a 7-song demo for a press kit, which leaked and led to the singles "Ghouls" and "Psychobitches outta Hell" becoming club hits in Denmark. After touring Europe until 2003, Caz the Clash left to focus on parenting and was replaced by Karsten, another member of Strawberry Slaughterhouse. Hellcat Records signed the band, and a vinyl single was released in September 2003. HorrorPops then headlined the "Aloha from hell tour" with nine shows across California and Arizona, and were interviewed by Vogue and reviewed by LA Weekly.

'Barbie doll' controversy

On 23 December 2010, Patricia Day filed a lawsuit in an Indianapolis federal court against Hard Rock casino, alleging infringement of the right of publicity and false endorsement. The suit claimed that Mattel and Hard Rock had sold a Barbie doll in Day's image without authorization, as part of a series of rock 'n' roll-themed Barbies featuring female musicians. The doll in question, called the "Hard Rock Café Barbie Doll" or "Rockabilly Barbie," was alleged to be made in Day's likeness without her permission.

Patricia Day's cancer battle

On 14 March 2022, the band's Facebook page announced that Patricia Day was battling cancer and that a GoFundMe page had been set up to help with her medical bills. Day commented that after a nine-year hiatus, a planned comeback tour was shut down by the pandemic, and as touring became possible again, she received a cancer diagnosis.
