Jojo Acuin

Filipino psychic known as the Nostradamus of Asia and the Pacific.

Jose Maria Villanueva Acuin, better known as Jojo Acuin (May 30, 1946 – April 29, 2010), was a Filipino psychic. He was dubbed the "Nostradamus of Asia and the Pacific." In 2000, he made a string of predictions: George W. Bush would become president, Hillary Clinton would be elected senator, the Payatas landslide would happen, Lucy Torres-Gomez and Sharon Cuneta would become pregnant, and one of the Rizal Day bombings would occur at a light rail station on December 30. He also had a 1987 prediction that "a mediaman in Cebu will soon die," after which a local journalist was shot dead by communists.

Background

Acuin's career was built on specific, high-profile predictions. In 2000 alone, he called the U.S. presidential win of George W. Bush, Hillary Clinton's Senate victory, the Payatas landslide, the pregnancies of celebrities Lucy Torres-Gomez and Sharon Cuneta, and a Rizal Day bombing at a light rail station on December 30. Earlier, in 1987, he predicted that "a mediaman in Cebu will soon die"—a local journalist was then shot dead by communists. Beyond predictions, he hosted a radio program on Angel Radio 1026 called "Hula-La," airing from 2 to 3 p.m., filled with his forecasts. In the early 2000s, PLDT partnered with him, advertising a hotline where callers could pay P10 a minute for fortune-telling.
