Designer progress

From episode 9 onward, challenge winners no longer received immunity. Although two designers were marked safe, every designer received a critique. In episode 13, it was revealed that only three of the designers, instead of four, would show their collection at the Finale. The season's winner was determined among those finalists.

Episodes

The season opened with sixteen designers arriving in New York City, presenting their best looks to host Karlie Kloss and judges Nina Garcia, Brandon Maxwell, and Elaine Welteroth. The first challenge required a look inspired by major fashion names with an unexpected twist; Tessa Clark won and Cavanagh Baker was eliminated. In the second episode, designers worked in teams to create a mini-collection previewing future fashion, using special effects body modifications from Simon Huck's 'A. Human' exhibit; Sebastian Grey won and Frankie Lewis was eliminated.

The third challenge involved bold head-to-toe looks from a single print, with guest judge Adam Selman; Hester Sunshine won and Nadine Ralliford was eliminated. For the fourth episode, designers created survival chic looks in the woods using unconventional materials; Renee Hill won and Afa Ah Loo was eliminated. The fifth challenge took designers to Dapper Dan's studio to create future streetwear, with guest judge Brandice Daniel; Bishme Cromartie won and Kovid Kapoor was eliminated.
