Seven years after his apparent death, Michael Scofield turns up alive in a notorious Yemeni prison called Ogygia, going by the name Kaniel Outis. With the country torn by war, his brother Lincoln Burrows and fellow former escapee C-Note risk everything to travel there and bring him home. Meanwhile, back in the U.S., Michael's wife Sara—now remarried—finds herself hunted by agents working for a mysterious operative known as Poseidon, the person behind Michael's disappearance.
This fifth and final season of *Prison Break*—also called *Prison Break: Resurrection*—is a limited event series that revives the original show created by Paul Scheuring, which originally ran on Fox from 2005 to 2009. It aired nine episodes between April 4 and May 30, 2017. The production companies involved include 20th Century Fox Television, Adelstein Productions, Dawn Olmstead Productions, One Light Road Productions, and Original Film. Paul Scheuring serves as showrunner, and executive producers include himself, Marty Adelstein, Neal H. Moritz, Dawn Olmstead, Vaun Wilmott, Michael Horowitz, and Nelson McCormick, who also directed.
Returning cast members from the original series are Wentworth Miller as Michael Scofield, Dominic Purcell as Lincoln Burrows, Sarah Wayne Callies as Sara Scofield, Amaury Nolasco as Fernando Sucre, Paul Adelstein as Paul Kellerman, Robert Knepper as Theodore "T-Bag" Bagwell, and Rockmond Dunbar as Benjamin Miles "C-Note" Franklin. New additions to the cast include Mark Feuerstein as Jacob Anton Ness, Inbar Lavi as Sheba, Augustus Prew as David "Whip" Martin, Marina Benedict as Emily Blake / A&W, Rick Yune as Ja, and Steve Mouzakis as Van Gogh.
The revival was first floated in January 2015, when Miller and Purcell mentioned at the Winter TCA Press Tour that Fox seemed interested. Fox Television Group chairman Gary Newman confirmed the studio's enthusiasm that same month, calling it a perfect event series. By June 2015, a limited series revival was in development, and in August 2015, Fox ordered a 10-episode season. Fox Television Group chairman Dana Walden noted the show's strong international and streaming performance, adding that the revival would offer a logical explanation for the characters' survival and answer lingering questions. The order was officially greenlit in January 2016, with the episode count revised to nine.
