Rodgers began his career as a defender at Ballymena United, then signed by Reading at age 18, but a genetic knee condition forced him to retire at 20. He remained at Reading as a coach and academy director, and played non-league football for Newport IOW, Witney Town and Newbury Town. After studying coaching methods in Spain, he was invited by José Mourinho to join Chelsea as youth manager in 2004, later promoted to reserve manager in 2006. He managed Watford (2008), Reading (2009), Swansea City (2010–2012), Liverpool (2012–2015), Celtic (2016–2019), Leicester City (2019–2023), Celtic again (2023–2025), and Al Qadsiah.
