Ninja Steel Gorilla

When the fight needs to end in one haymaker, the Gorilla answers the call.

The Ninja Steel Gorilla is a heavy-hitting, gorilla-themed Zord from the 2017 season Power Rangers Ninja Steel. Built with the angular, sharp-edged design language that defines the Ninja Zord line, it serves as a brute-force brawler in the team's arsenal, delivering overwhelming raw power to smash through enemy formations and hold the line when the Rangers need an unbreakable wall of muscle and metal.

As part of the Ninja Zord roster, the Gorilla pairs with its animal-themed siblings to form larger combined configurations, and it also operates independently as a one-on-one powerhouse. Its role on the battlefield is straightforward: close the distance, grab the enemy, and deliver devastating close-range strikes that no amount of armor can fully absorb.

Lore & Background

The Ninja Steel Gorilla was engineered as the muscle of the Ninja Zord team. Where the Tiger brings speed and the Dragon brings ranged fire, the Gorilla was designed to be the immovable anchor—a towering, broad-shouldered frame of interlocking armor plates, jointed claws, and a chest cavity that houses the core power cell. Its silhouette is unmistakably primate: a hunched, forward-leaning posture, massive forearms, and a wide stance that plants it into the ground like a boulder.

The ninja aesthetic is woven throughout its construction. Rather than the rounded, organic plating of earlier Power Rangers Zords, the Gorilla's body is composed of faceted, blade-like segments that catch light like polished steel. Sharp cheek guards, a segmented neck collar, and angular shoulder pauldrons give it a feral, combat-ready appearance. Its eyes glow with a fierce, focused light, and when it roars, the sound carries the harmonic resonance of the Ninja Steel power system.

In combined formations, the Gorilla typically contributes its upper body or limbs to a larger Megazord configuration, lending its crushing grip and shock-absorbing frame. Solo, it is a relentless grappler: it charges, locks its arms around an opponent, and either slams them into the earth or hurls them across the battlefield. Its design philosophy is less about precision and more about overwhelming, inescapable force.

In Their Own Story

The warehouse district of the city was already smoking when the alarm hit. A swarm of armored drones had locked down the intersection, their energy lances carving trenches into the asphalt. The Rangers dropped from the sky in a scatter of color and light, and within seconds the call to the Zord bay was made.

The ground shuddered. Out of the fog rolled the Ninja Steel Gorilla, each footfall cracking the pavement in a slow, deliberate rhythm. Its massive fists were already clenched, knuckle-plates grinding against each other with a sound like a forge hammer. It did not roar. It did not need to. It simply walked forward, arms swinging in wide, heavy arcs that sent drones spinning into the air like tin cans.

One drone lunged, lance extended. The Gorilla caught the weapon between its palms, bent it sideways, and wrenched it free. The metal shrieked. It tossed the broken lance aside and drove both fists into the drone's chest plate, folding it inward. The impact cratered the concrete for twenty meters in every direction.

The remaining drones broke formation and fled. The Gorilla stood in the center of the wreckage, steam hissing from its joints, and slowly unclenched its fists. The Rangers disengaged their linkages and the Zord powered down, its glowing eyes dimming to a steady, watchful amber. The fight was over. The Gorilla had made sure of that.

Reader's Guide

The Ninja Steel Gorilla debuted in Power Rangers Ninja Steel (2017) as a member of the Ninja Zord team. It is piloted by one of the Ninja Steel Rangers and functions as the team's primary heavy-class Zord.

Its design is inspired by a silverback gorilla reinterpreted through the angular, faceted ninja-mecha aesthetic that defines the Ninja Steel season. Sharp-edged armor plates, segmented joint guards, and a broad, forward-leaning silhouette give it a distinctly feral and aggressive look compared to the smoother Zords of earlier seasons.

Signature combat style centers on close-range grappling and heavy strikes: charging slams, overhead haymakers, and a devastating two-fisted ground pound that sends shockwaves through the terrain. It excels at pinning, crushing, and hurling opponents rather than delivering ranged or precision attacks.

In combination history, the Gorilla integrates with the other Ninja Zords—Tiger, Dragon, and its fourth companion—to form a larger Megazord configuration. In these combinations it typically contributes its powerful upper body or arms, lending grip strength and structural mass to the combined form. Specific combination names and exact configurations vary across episodes, but the Gorilla's role as the power core of the combo is consistent.

Limitations include relatively slow repositioning compared to the Tiger or Dragon, and a vulnerability to sustained ranged bombardment while it closes the distance. Its brute-force approach is nearly unbreakable in a one-on-one, but it can be outmaneuvered by faster, more agile opponents if the Rangers do not coordinate support.
