Dino Thunder Mammoth
When the earth shakes, it's the Mammoth that stands its ground.
The Mammoth Zord is the primary Zord of the Red Ranger in Power Rangers Dino Thunder (2008), the fourteenth season of the long-running franchise. Modeled on the prehistoric woolly mammoth, it is the largest and most physically imposing individual Zord in the Dino Thunder roster, serving as the structural backbone of the team's combined Dino Megazord. When the other Zords detach and reconfigure around it, the Mammoth provides the torso, legs, and core framework that gives the Megazord its towering, grounded silhouette.

Lore & Background
In the world of Dino Thunder, the Zords are ancient mechanical beasts sealed within Dino Gems, each one a living relic from a prehistoric epoch. The Mammoth Zord, bonded to the Red Ranger, embodies the raw, unstoppable force of the Ice Age's apex herbivore. Its thick, armored hide, sweeping tusks, and massive trunk give it a distinctly different aesthetic from the more reptilian Zords of other seasons—here, the design language leans into mammalian bulk, shaggy plating, and the sheer kinetic weight of a creature that could level a forest by simply charging forward.
In Their Own Story
The dust had barely settled from Narita's latest assault when Jack slammed his Dino Gem into the console. The ground split. From the chasm rose a wall of grey-brown armor, a snout trailing silt, two ivory tusks curving like the horns of a storm. The Mammoth shook its great head, trunk sweeping the air in a slow, deliberate arc, and the Pteranodon screamed overhead as it locked into the shoulder joint. One by one, the others slotted in—Triceratops crest snapping forward, T-Rex jaws clicking shut over the forearm, Ankylosaurus tail wrapping the hip plate. The Dino Megazord stood. The Mammoth's legs, thick as redwood trunks, planted into the cracked asphalt. Jack's voice crackled over the comms: 'Let's go.' The Megazord took its first step, and the city felt it.
Reader's Guide
The Mammoth Zord debuted in Power Rangers Dino Thunder (2008, Season 14) as the Red Ranger's personal Zord. Its design is drawn directly from the woolly mammoth—broad shoulders, a long trunk, sweeping tusks, and a shaggy, armored hide that distinguishes it from the reptile-themed Zords of prior seasons. It is the largest single Zord in the Dino Thunder team and serves as the structural core of the Dino Megazord, providing the torso, legs, and primary mass around which the Triceratops, Pteranodon, T-Rex, Ankylosaurus, and Pterodactyl Zords attach.
In solo combat the Mammoth relies on brute force: a full-body charge, a trunk sweep that can knock back multiple enemies, and a tusks-driven ground slam. In the combined Dino Megazord it becomes the lower body and central chassis, with the smaller Zords forming the head, arms, wings, and shield. Its size is both its greatest strength and its limitation—maneuverability in tight urban spaces is reduced, and it is a more visible target for ranged attacks.
The Mammoth's lore within the season ties it to the Ice Age epoch, contrasting with the Cretaceous-era themes of other Zords. It is consistently the first Zord deployed and the last to retreat, reinforcing its role as the team's shield and anchor. No unique transformation modes or alternate forms are widely documented for the Mammoth beyond its standard and Megazord configurations.
Did You Know?
- The Mammoth Zord is the only Zord in the Dino Thunder lineup based on a mammal rather than a reptile or bird, giving the team a distinctly Ice Age element alongside its Cretaceous-themed counterparts.
- As the core of the Dino Megazord, the Mammoth's body is visible in the combined form's legs and lower torso, meaning its mammoth features—trunk, tusks, and shaggy plating—remain partially exposed even when fully combined
- Dino Thunder's Zords are activated and bonded through Dino Gems, small crystalline keys that each Ranger carries, rather than through a vehicle or a separate zord-convoy system seen in other seasons.
- The show's villain, Count Narita, is a vampire-like figure whose gothic, gothic-horror aesthetic contrasts sharply with the prehistoric, earthy design language of the Mammoth and the rest of the Zord roster.
