Pokémon the Series: XY is the seventeenth season of the Pokémon anime and the first season of the Pokémon the Series: XY story arc. In Japan, it aired as Pocket Monsters: XY. The story follows Ash Ketchum as he explores the Kalos region and works toward competing in its Pokémon League. He is accompanied by Serena, who hopes to become a Pokémon Performer; Clemont, the Gym Leader of Lumiose City and a self-taught inventor; and Bonnie, Clemont’s younger sister. The season first aired in Japan on TV Tokyo from October 17, 2013, to October 30, 2014. In the United States, it aired on Cartoon Network from January 18, 2014, to December 20, 2014, following a preview of the first two episodes on October 19, 2013. The Japanese opening songs include "V (Volt)" by Yusuke, with an alternate version by Satoshi (Rica Matsumoto) and J☆Dee'Z for 28 episodes, and "Mega V (Volt)" by Yusuke for 21 episodes. The Japanese ending songs are "X Strait, Y Scenery" by J☆Dee'Z for 28 episodes, "Peace Smile!" by J☆Dee'Z with Pikachu (Ikue Ōtani) for 18 episodes, and "DreamDream" by Shoko Nakagawa for 3 episodes. The English opening is "Pokémon Theme (Version XY)" by Ben Dixon and The Sad Truth, with an instrumental version used as the ending theme.
