Reader's Guide
Pokémon the Series: XY Kalos Quest represents a transitional season in the Pokémon anime, bridging the earlier XY episodes with the later XYZ arc. Its significance lies in its unique home media treatment: it is the only dubbed season whose subtitle appears exclusively on DVD releases, not in the episode openings. The season's music features multiple Japanese opening and ending themes, reflecting the series' ongoing popularity in Japan. The English opening 'Be a Hero' was performed by Ben Dixon and The Sad Truth, with music by Ed Goldfarb. Viz Media and Warner Home Video released the season in the United States on two three-disc volume sets: the first on July 12, 2016 (22 episodes), and the second on December 13, 2016 (23 episodes). A complete season set containing all 45 episodes was released on September 24, 2024. The season's legacy is tied to its role in the Kalos storyline and its distinctive subtitle usage.
