Gameplay

Players act as an air traffic controller at a busy airport featuring a runway for large red jets, a runway for small yellow planes, and a helipad for blue helicopters. By drawing paths on the field, players direct each aircraft to its designated landing zone. Each successful landing scores one point, and as the score increases, more aircraft appear simultaneously. The game ends when two or more aircraft collide. High scores can be uploaded to online leaderboards via Firemint's cloudcell technology and iOS Game Center. Update 1.2 added four new aircraft types and two new stages: a beach and an aircraft carrier. Update 1.3 enabled Bluetooth multiplayer via a second device. Update 1.5 introduced an Australian Outback map with Royal Flying Doctor Service airplanes that cannot be redirected. Update 1.7 overhauled the graphical engine, extended the title screen melody, and added Windy Airfield, where planes can only land on runways facing into the wind. The latest update brought the total playable runways to five.

Reception

Flight Control was well liked by critics. IGN scored it 8/10 and highlighted its replay value. Pocket Gamer also gave it 8/10, calling it incredibly simple and addictive. In 2010, Pocket Gamer named it the best casual or puzzle game for iPhone. The Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences also nominated it for Casual Game of the Year.
