Mister Gibbs
Jack Sparrow's superstitious friend and first mate, played by Kevin McNally in every film.
Joshamee Gibbs, usually called Mr Gibbs, is a character in the Pirates of the Caribbean films, played by Kevin R. McNally. With Jack Sparrow and Hector Barbossa he is one of the few characters who appears in every film. Writer Terry Rossio has called him the most virtuous character as of At World's End.
Background
Gibbs starts out as an Able Seaman in the Royal Navy, sailing with Governor Swann and young Elizabeth to Port Royal, and is deeply superstitious and afraid of pirates. Within the next eight years he leaves the Navy, or is thrown out, and becomes a good friend of Jack Sparrow, whose history and quest to retake the Black Pearl he knows well. He never loses his superstitions, warning that women aboard ships bring bad luck.
