Plot
The series follows Declan Dunn, a professor of anthropology at the Northern University of Oregon, as he investigates seemingly miraculous events. Declan's passion for such phenomena stems from his own survival of an avalanche, which he considers a miracle and a turning point in his life. He is often compared to Indiana Jones for his energetic approach to solving mysteries. Assisting him are his close friends Dr. Peggy Fowler, a psychiatrist, and Miranda Feigelstein, a physics graduate student and research assistant. Peggy tends to offer rational alternatives to Declan's theories, though her explanations sometimes amount to calling events freak occurrences. Miranda, skeptical and introverted, handles tests and instruments, occasionally revealing a more open side in certain episodes. Episodes often present a rational explanation that is later disproven, leaving the possibility of paranormal activity unresolved.
Cast
Adrian Pasdar portrays Declan Dunn, a professor of anthropology at Northern University in Oregon. After surviving an avalanche while skiing, Declan dedicates much of his free time to investigating miracles, hoping to gain perspective on his own experience. He is assisted by Dr. Peggy Fowler, played by Rae Dawn Chong, a psychiatrist who helps victims of strange events cope with their feelings. Though cheerful, Peggy is haunted by her husband's death and no longer believes in miracles, yet she frequently aids Declan using her hospital connections. Alisen Down plays Miranda Feigelstein, Declan's assistant and a physics graduate student. Miranda is sarcastic, intelligent, and skeptical of miracles, often taking a contrary position to Declan's theories. Despite this, she is loyal to Declan and he is the one who brings her out of her shell.
Broadcast
The first eight episodes aired on NBC starting in July 2000, with additional episodes in January and July 2001 before being pulled in August due to poor ratings. PAX TV, in which NBC held a 32% interest, began airing the show in August 2000 and became its home until September 2002. The series also aired internationally and currently runs in syndication on VisionTV in Canada.
