Lore & Background
Stade Saint-Germain was founded on 21 June 1904 and based in Saint-Germain-en-Laye. Its badge featured the town's coat of arms, including the cot, the fleur-de-lis, and a date referencing the commune as the birthplace of King Louis XIV. The club's best Coupe de France performance before the merger was reaching the quarter-finals in 1968–69, where they lost to Olympique de Marseille.
In Their Own Story
August 1970 was a turning point written in ink and ambition. In the boardrooms where Paris's football future was decided, Pierre-Étienne Guyot argued that the capital needed a single voice to match its global stature. Outside those walls, the first players donned kits stitched with deep navy and crimson stripes, colors chosen not just for aesthetics but as a declaration of ownership over the city. They were not yet giants; they were an idea made flesh, betting on the belief that Paris deserved a team worthy of its name. When training began under this new banner, the ghosts of fragmented local rivals faded, replaced by the roar of a unified beginning.
