Ghatothkachudu

Ghatothkachudu is a 1995 Telugu fantasy comedy film. S. V. Krishna Reddy co-wrote, directed, and composed the music. K. Atchi Reddy produced it. Satyanarayana plays the title role of Ghatotkacha, with Ali and Roja in key roles. The cast also includes Baby Nikita, AVS, Kota Srinivasa Rao, Tanikella Bharani, Brahmanandam, and Tinnu Anand. The film was a box office hit.

In the story, the mythological Ghatotkacha is fatally wounded in the Kurukshetra War. A tribal girl gives him water, and he promises to repay her kindness. Centuries later, she is reborn as Chitti, the sole heir to a wealthy NRI family. Her parents, Koteswara Rao and Sudha, are targeted by relatives Chalapathi and his son, who plot to kill them for their wealth. A mute servant, Basanna, protects Chitti from several attempts, but the villains eventually throw him out and kill her parents with a car bomb. Basanna sacrifices himself to save Chitti. His son, Ranga, then flees with Chitti into a forest. When cornered, Chitti calls for help, and Ghatotkacha appears to save her.

Separately, a Robocop-like robot named Subba Rao saves Roja from a bald criminal (AVS). Subba Rao falls in love with Roja and often visits Ghatotkacha, Chitti, and Roja, clashing with Ranga. Chalapathi and his associate keep trying to kill Chitti. They nearly succeed, but Ghatotkacha intervenes just in time, saving her before she is killed. He destroys Subba Rao’s 10,000-watt power source, prays to Lord Anjaneya, becomes a supergiant, and saves Chitti without reversing time. Ghatotkacha then reprograms Subba Rao to defeat the villains. Subba Rao kills Chalapathi with a laser, while Ghatotkacha plays tennis with a wizard’s head. He also defeats the bald criminal and the scientist who created Subba Rao. In the climax, Chalapathi’s son and the wizard’s henchmen are caught in a chaotic accident involving multiplying balls. Afterward, Ghatotkacha reduces Subba Rao’s power from 10,000 watts to 220 watts.

After the success of *Yamaleela* (1994), director S. V. Krishna Reddy chose Ghatotkacha from the Mahabharata for his next fantasy film. He reunited with producer K. Atchi Reddy, as well as actors Satyanarayana and Ali. Satyanarayana played Ghatotkacha, and Ali took a lead role. Tanikella Bharani appears in a different role from his *Yamaleela* character.
